Monthly Meeting Recap

It was great Monday night to enjoy a meal, fellowship and encouragement by gathering together.

USMC veteran Bob Hollingsworth led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Ben Robert, our Legacy Chaplain, said the opening prayer.  

The Cook Team did a great job as usual and served us pork chops and cheater beans”.   

Thanks to all who brought new guys with you to the meeting.  This is the primary way that the ministry of Legacy Outfitters grows to reach more men in our area.

Cody Wells presented a series of photos that both gave us a good laugh and helped us to celebrate the success of recent hunting and fishing trips.

Terry Newman encouraged us to participate in the Focus Group meetings to have spiritual conversations with men who share the same outdoor interests.  Terry told us about some new focus groups.  We have a “hiking group” starting this month.  Also, there will be a new Bible Study at the Legacy Outfitters office on Wednesdays at 6pm where we will be studying the same verses covered on Friday mornings.

Scott Robison talked a little about our Fire Pit Questions that center around the character trait of “boldness”.   Scott reminded us we can be bold because we walk with Jesus.

Our speaker was Scott Michael; he told us how his life was radically changed by Christ.  Scott was raised in a family of believers going to church believing in God.  He had a great relationship with his dad. He was involved in sports in high school and went on to go to Baylor.

In his sophomore year he got a call that his dad had died.  His takeaway from that was people you love die.  Looking back now he realizes the crowd he was with was not helpful at this time, he was a fool surrounded by fools. 

Scott moved to Dallas, got married and had 3 children.  He started doing the things he thought men do, earn money, become successful, etc. He went to church because that’s what good people do. After years of living like this, while going through the motions at church, he realized this is a joke, there has to be more to this than 1 hour a week playing the “everything is OK” game. It was at that time he gained a desire to figure out what he really believed. This led him to attend a bible study full of a very diverse group of “real men” who were diligently seeking God, men that were focused on the Gospel message.

Slowly his life changed, he gained a desire to grow, he became the leader in his home. Scott expressed his gratitude that the Gospel was at the center of that first bible study.  At 38 God saved him, made him a new creation, made him bold in his faith with a desire to share the Gospel message with others.  He has been growing in his faith ever since. He has surrendered, removing himself from the throne and allowing Jesus to take his rightful place.  Scott told us to remember that it takes “Real Courage” to surrender; to admit we need a savior.

Finally, Scott challenged us to “Go to God’s word”. 

He directed us to 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 - "Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. Do everything in love."

As men of God, he asked us to remember these to do these 5 things

1.      Step Up – be a leader

2.      Speak Out - fear God and speak the truth

3.      Stay Strong - stand firm

4.      Stay Humble - be diligent versus pride

5.      Serve the King – seek first the Kingdom

Upcoming Events

October 6: The Pistol/Rifle group is hosting a rifle tune up at Chandler’s starting at 4:00pm.  We will have several sleds and a sighting scope for you to get “dialed in”. Come on out to get ready for deer season and enjoy some food and fellowship while you’re at it.  Call Mike Hough with questions 714-863-0851. 

October 24-25: The Father Daughter Campout is coming up at Latham Springs.  Bring your daughter or granddaughter out for a great weekend. Activities include archery, target shooting with .22 rifles and more. Details and sign-ups at www.legacyoutfitters.org.
