July 13, 2026 Waco Chapter
monthly meeting recap
by Mike Hough
What a blessing Monday night to enjoy a meal, fellowship and encouragement by gathering together.
USMC Veteran, Bob Hollingsworth led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Ben Robert, our Legacy Chaplain, said the opening prayer.
The Cook Team did a great job as usual and served carnitas tacos and cheater beans. Thanks also to Ben Robert for the watermelon.
Thank you to all who brought new guys with you to the meeting. This is the primary way that the ministry of Legacy Outfitters grows to reach more men in our area.
Cody Wells presented a series of photos that both gave us a good laugh and helped us to celebrate the success of recent hunting and fishing trips.
Terry Newman encouraged us to participate in the Focus Group meetings to have spiritual conversations with men who share the same outdoor interests. Stay tuned for new Focus Groups: Pickleball and Hiking.
Scott Robison touched on this month's Fire Pit Questions that center around the character trait of “dependance” which will help us to look at the things we depend on. He reminded us that the only one we can depend fully on is Jesus Christ, His work on the Cross is irrevocable.
We were able to enjoy 2 speakers on Monday.
The first was longtime friend of Legacy Outfitters, Cory Vinson from Guaranteed Guide Service who got us up to date on the striper bite on Lake Whitney. He also spoke about the upcoming phases that they will go through between now and the end of the year. If you plan to fish Lake Whitney this year, I hope you were paying attention, Cory talked about how water temperature affects the behavior of the striped bass as well as what bait to use.
Cory also gave us some tips for night fishing for hybrid bass on Richland Chambers Reservoir at lighted docks this fall. Hopefully some of you will get out there and catch some fish. If you are interested in booking a trip with Cory or one of his guys you can find him at www.nofishnocharge.com
Our second speaker was none other than legendary Dallas Cowboy, Burton Lawless. Burton has enjoyed long friendship with Jeff and has gone fishing with him and other Cowboy players many times. He has also been a great friend to Legacy Outfitters, speaking to us on multiple occasions.
Burton moved to Punta Gorda Florida early in life and later played at the University of Florida before being drafted in the 2nd round by the Cowboys in 1975. He told us several stories about his career as a Dallas Cowboy including playing in the Superbowl 3 of his first 4 years in the NFL.
Later in life Burton injured his neck resulting in paralysis for 17 days then enduring 4 months of rehab before being able to walk again. He told us that every day is a gift from God, that life is a rollercoaster, when it gets you down you grab your bootstraps and get back up.
Burton answered several of our questions and showed off his Championship and Superbowl rings. That’s some hardware there. It is always a pleasure to have Burton with us.
Jeff Fritscher closed our meeting with prayer.
The Legacy Outfitters Annual Fishers of Men Banquet is fast approaching, Saturday, August 1st. Doors open at 4:00pm. Get there early as many silent auction items and card raffles will be gone soon after that.
The next Legacy Outfitters monthly meeting will be Monday August 10th.
